Dinner With Darkness

Keann

“To be honest, I do not trust this dude,” Zane said coming up to stand beside us.

“Just because you think he is weird and his eyes creep you out, does not mean that he is hiding something.” Blitz rolled her eyes as she watched the horses ride up to the doors of the palace. “Please keep an open mind because we need his help in order to cleanse this realm.”

“Zane is right,” Ash said coming to place his arm through hers. Her face scrunched up into a half-smirk and I don’t even know how to explain what the other half was. “Do I want to know what that face means?” Ash whispered in Blitz’s ear.

“No.” I know exactly what was on her mind. She nearly took my head off when I told her that we needed to wait until the pills started to work. Nothing like six horny men surrounding her at every waking moment and not being allowed to touch us. Though, teasing her has been a riot these past two days.

“Remember my brother is a proud Fae and traditions are sacred to him. Zane, I am speaking to you…” I laughed and smacked him on the shoulder while Blitz just giggled. Quickly returned her face to a more neutral one as the horses finally stopped in front of us. “Reese, thank you for joining us.” Ash outstretched his hand but his brother completely ignored it as he went for Blitz’s hand and brought it up to his lips.

“It is an honor to meet you under much calmer circumstances.” His men were leading the horses to our guards before coming to stand behind Reese. The silence was completely awkward. I looked over at Blitz and she was frozen with her hand still in his.

“That’s enough Reese. Let her mind go,” Ash said as he moved to break the connection.

“No harm, I just wanted to get to know the Queen a little bit more without the farce I know you created. My apologies to your mates.”

“Next time just ask. I do not play games and I expect the same courtesy. Invading my mind is neither polite nor acceptable behavior. Now please follow us to the dining hall.” I watched as Ash squeezed her hand and a little tinge of jealousy rushed through me before settling. “Would you like to eat first or speak on business? Or both?”

“No offense but I would rather not spend more time than needed in this place. You understand.” Blitz just kept a smile on her face as she walked the group to the hall. “This place certainly hasn’t changed since we were young, brother. You could’ve at least updated the foyer.”

“My apologies,” Ash said stiffly and I could feel the heat of his anger from over here.

“Drop the act, we both know that we cannot stand each other so why even pretend?” Reese said coming to walk on the other side of Blitz. Part of me liked this guy’s bluntness, especially when aimed at Ash.
